I am going to add pictures and back story to how we came to get our loving gang of cats. Each one is special to Glenn (Sam) and I. Some more than others. Each cat has come to us on their own as they were all strays or abandoned kittens and cats. Most of them kittens.
We also take care of several Alley Cats in our neighborhood that have been abandoned by people moving in and out of the area. I really don't understand how a person can just leave an animal that they took into their lives to care for. You really have to have low moral character to do that. OK..enough..on with the introductions......
Devon
Devon came to us as a kitten. His mother, we call her Mama Kitty, still lives outside and we take care of her. Actually she is closed up in our bathroom right now as she got sick and lost a lot of weigh. We are nursing her back to health. He was the runt of her litter of 4. He was really sick, but we didn't know that when Sam caught him. Out of the 5 of them, he was caught first..all because he was hungry. We had him for a week in the house and he wouldn't calm down and let us hold him or nothing. He kept hollering for him Mama and siblings. Finally he gave in and again it was his stomach that did him in!! We went out to eat at Corner Cafe. We brought a Banana Split Pie back with us. I was sitting on the couch and up my leg he climbed. Sat on my lap..looked at the pie and then directly into my eyes. I fell in love that instant. He is my booger bear now. He ate that ENTIRE piece of pie...fruit crust and all. The piece of pie was bigger than him. I noticed at that time that he had a raspiness sound when he was breathing. I thought oh he has a cold. So we were feeding him really good and giving him chicken broth and everything. I notice a week later he had LOST weight and not gained. I knew then that something was wrong. I took him to "Pet Care" vet on Independence Ave. I didn't like that guy at all. He did pull out a worm just as long as Devon was. He was ate up with them. So got Meds for him and asked the Vet about the sound when he breathes...he said just a cold. Devon and I left and he was hurting. The vet was too rough with sticking that thermometer up his little butthole. For three weeks Devon had butt problems because of that man. He anally raped my kitty is what he did. Several more worms came out during the next week. The breathing got worse, so I went to the Avenue Vet right down from the house and that guy is wonderful. Devon had Pneumonia. Got antibiotics and now Devon is well. Still a runt, but Jeez he has the longest skinniest tail I have ever seen on a cat. He has just, finally, gone through his adolescent stage where he was cock of the block and he didn't want to be held. He is settling down lately, but still runs from Glenn. HAHA.
Blinky
Blinky is one of Devon's siblings. He is a character. To this day, we cannot touch him. He lays next to us, just outta reach. He will lay at our feet and sometimes play with them or lick them. Just don't try to touch him. He freaks out and runs. He's a good cat other than that. He has had no health problems. He was the second caught from his family.
The others, Sebastian, Amanda, and Mama, were all captured...taken to the vet...given shots..fixed..and let go back into the neighborhood because they are too wild. Amanda, unfortunately, died several months ago after a dog attack. She is buried deep in our back yard. Sebastian hangs around the front porch and plays with the inside cats through the storm door. It is too funny. He wants to be in here....just not with us people.
Finster
This kitten just ran up our walkway and jumped into Glenn's arms. It was the cutest thing. Glenn fell in love that moment. I, however, was not convinced. He was too well taken care of to be a stray. I wouldn't let him bring him in because I knew he would never leave. We already had 10 cats and I was yelling NO MORE!!! So Glenn, smartly, would turn on the porch light and walk back and forth in front of the storm door holding Finster. After two days of this I let him being him in and guess what...He never left.
I love this cat. He is cool. He loves to play with the other cats and with us. He likes to be sort of rough and he doesn't use his claws unless he has to make a point. He sleeps on a pillow at the head of the bed between Glenn and I. He also loves to snuggle with you in bed a well. None of the other cats like that. We love it!!
Yakko, Wakko, & Dot
Yes, Glenn named three sibling kittens after the Animaniacs. Each one actually lives up to there names...it's hilarious. In the picture above, is Yakko and Dot. Yakko is the Brown/Hazel cat while his sister has the Dot on her nose. He is a talker. Dot always wants the love but then streaks off after a few rubs. Wakko, in the picture below YakkoVivion Road.
Rhett
Rhett truly had a kitty angel watching over him. He was abandoned at the property on Vivion where Sam and Jeff lived. He was howling and scratching at the door to the building where his people used to live. Sam caught him. He is a lover. He is very passive. He has an old man's meow too! So Cute! Loves to have his spine scratched pretty hard. He pushed back when you so it. Jeff called him Red and I changed it to Rhett, because he is a lover. He likes everyone and has no qualms about coming up to anyone at the house.
Peggy
Peggy came to us as an abandoned kitty as well. She was way too little to be on her own, but she was. Probably some ass just dumped her somewhere. She looks like a Chocolate Tortoise shell cat. I don't care she is lovely. Saw her one night on our porch as I was taking some beef scraps out to the outdoor cats (fat and meaty bones - they need all the help they can get). I put a T-bone done that still had a fare amount of meat on it. This little kitten sprang from between 5 adult cats to grab the bone that was almost two times the size of her. She was snorting and hissing - saying THIS IS MINE!! I was adorable and yet upsetting. She really didn't stand a chance without her Mama out there. We put a trap out the later the same night and we got her. Again, the stomach did them in. She only took a couple of days to get adjusted. The top picture of her was taken that first week. We had comforters all laid down so she would be cozy and warm..it was winter. She was all intertwined with the other cats. She has grown into a very gentle cat. She plays rough with Finster though. If they weren't fixed, as every cat we have is, we would have many kitties.
Lady Diana
Diana has been with Glenn (Sam) since he lived out in Overland Park. She was owned by the lady he lived with. She was a Canadian weirdo. Something happened and they all had to move because of her...she just left Diana. While she isn't my favorite cat, she would not have survived on her own. The lady gave her no attention, instead she gave her attention to her other cat...the one she took. So Diana ate and ate and ate her pain away because she got no attention. She is now skinny and gets lots of attention. She is also the hairball queen.
Snoot and BigBoy
These two cats came to us from Tim. He passed away and his parents were too old to care for the cats. These are old cats. Snoot, top picture, is a great cat but he has cataracts and can barely see. BigBoy, can see but he is very needy. Annoyingly so. We have to keep them locked in the back room because they don't get along with our cats and they also have the tendency to piss and crap anywhere. Doesn't matter where they are. I have a problem with that, as most people would.
That is it!! I know I thought it would never end too!!
